Opening the Dovecote

A new space for children with communication and interaction difficulties at the Primary School was officially opened on 18th October. The Dovecote is the school’s Specialist Resource Provision and it has already benefited children across the school this past term.

This is a class where children with communication and interaction difficulties can work in a way which best suits their needs to progress and to become as successful as possible. The Dovecote has been open since September and is already having great success with the children working in there. The provision benefits not just the children in Doves class, but children right across the school.

Warwickshire Education’s vision is for a provision such as this to be established in one in every three primary schools across the county to support the best education for children with special needs. Whilst the Dovecote is not the first SRP in the county, it is the first in our part of it, and it is hoped that it will not be too long before there are others opening up (either in Shipston or nearby) to give local children the best possible school experience.

The Dovecote was opened by John Dinnie, town mayor with Dale Bromfield and Ross Caws from WCC in attendance alongside staff and school leaders from our local area.
