Shipston Primary School pupils have been debating what the town’s Neighbourhood Plan should be focusing on, with some interesting results.
Assistant Head Teacher, Mrs Wallace, explained about the Neighbourhood Plan in a lively assembly presentation in July, before tasking the children with thinking about what they like about Shipston and what they think the town needs. The result is a colourful canvas packed full of ideas for the Neighbourhood Plan team to consider.
Many of the ideas relate to new activities including[nbsp]playgrounds, a waterpark, laserquest, play centre, museums and even a velodrome. Well known[nbsp]brands were also much in demand, with calls for high street clothing shops, retailers and restaurants.
Toyshops and sweet shops were among the requests, as well as practical items such as an Accident and Emergency department, maintaining a fire station and installing[nbsp]more pedestrian crossings.
Head Teacher, Christian Hilton, said “It is really important to give children an opportunity to have a say in how their town develops and it was fascinating to see the broad range of ideas coming forward from pupils across the school. We were pleased to have an opportunity to contribute to the Neighbourhood Plan and look forward to seeing how it develops.”
The Neighbourhood Plan topic groups will consider the suggestions from the primary school when developing initial options for the draft plan and will also be working with the High School to gain further feedback during the autumn.
