Do we need to be reminded of the rain at the beginning of December?
Yes, in a way, because during a very wet evening, the spirit of Shipston showed itself in the support for the Victorian Evening. The band played on, the Square was bustling and some of the stallholders reported their best-ever evening!
Organisers Shipston Rotary made the brave decision to go ahead despite the weather forecast, which lived up to its promise. The heavens opened mid-afternoon and the rain was relentless for the remainder of the evening. Yet the Mayor switched on the town lights and the Tree of Life radiated its blessing from the bulbs named in honour of lost loved ones. The Primary School Choir sang their hearts out, accompanied valiantly by Shipston Town Band, and the singing concluded with the undaunted Cotswold Choir.
As ever, the Town centre shops stayed open until late and there was a queue at Sheldon Bosley Knight to see Santa.
