Over 150 people, including local MP Manuela Perteghella and district and town councillors turned out at short notice to support SOS Save Our Shipston and show their concern over the number of planning applications the town faces. The protest at Shoulderway Lane was at the site where developer Gladman has submitted an application to build 120 homes on farmland. SOS concerns include inappropriate development, encroachment on the countryside and increasing the risk of flooding, with houses built for profit rather than to meet local needs, and without thought for infrastructure. SOS member Abi Coombes, told the Stratford Herald that the way people responded to stand together was ‘incredibly powerful and genuinely moving’.
‘It speaks volumes about how deeply this matters to our community’, she said. ‘It shows the real strength of feeling. This is about protecting not just a place, but a shared sense of belonging and responsibility for future generations.’
